Jim Cullum

Organized in 1962, the Jim Cullum Jazz Band is renowned worldwide for playing the classic jazz associated with King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton and Bix Beiderbecke --among others--plus music by great American composers such as Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin. The band has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap Farm, Austin City Limits, at festivals and concerts across the U.S. and Mexico and on a wildly successful tour of Russia!

The musicians are full-time professionals, with extensive backgrounds in traditional jazz, swing and other vintage musical styles. Since 1987, Riverwalk Jazz radio broadcasts have featured the Jim Cullum Jazz Band with distinguished musical guests. The Pacific Vista Production is heard worldwide on Public Radio International.

JSM Ltd. Swing Orchestra

The JSM Ltd. Swing Orchestra is led by veteran jazz saxophonist John Magaldi and includes a 17-piece big band orchestra made up of San Antonio jazz musicians. Born in New York and raised in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood and Connecticut, Magaldi started out playing clarinet in school and then switched to the saxophone, and decided to pursue music full time after seeing big bands such as the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Magaldi’s music career began at the ripe age of 15 when he started working with a professional dance band on New Jersey’s Steel Pier. Magaldi’s résumé includes sessions with renowned big bands like Tex Beneke, Louis Bellson and Boots Randolph. Magaldi is a regular on the San Antonio jazz scene playing his sax weekly with a variety of local jazz musicians at The Cove and various other venues around the city.
